Promises to keep: 32nd birthday

Last week I celebrated my birthday. While digging into a lovely black forest cake it clicked somewhere SUDDENLY that life is very beautiful, I was surrounded by people I loved and it could’nt have been better! These last 10 years had seen me graduate from college, struggle really hard to get this job, get posted to a metro i dreaded to be alone in-Mumbai, eventually find love, get married to the one I loved, build a beautiful nest with my soulmate and the best part- welcome a new family member, who makes me skip a heart beat everytime I look at her. The numbers to my age made me wiser, calmer and patient. All these years birthdays had been celebrated with the same energy warmth and love. I made resolutions, slept over them only to come up with similar newly worded ones the next year. Let’s see if this year could be different for I am going to keep them as promises to myself and my family! Does that sound newly worded……naaaaaaaaaaah! 1. I have to eat healthy and reduce junk to once...

Quick Skin care in your 30s

I wondered why women complimented me on my glowing face, always. I have dry skin with occasionally oily t-zone. I would generally not pay a lot of attention to it. So, I thought. But while going threadbare at what regime I followed or did not follow, i realized that my skin care was primarily deep rooted into home remedies, minimal usage of chemical based products, and it was CHEAP and FUSS FREE. The reason for this kind of regime could be that I was mostly focused on academics in school, had some fun experimenting the below listed tricks in college and once I started working I was always hard pressed for time. So here’s what I’ve been doing right I guess, rest it’s all my genes. These tips barely take 5-10 mins and I don’t follow any periodicity. At times I do it every week, at times after months I apply a face pack. Mom always said that do not fiddle with your face, and probably that has helped . 1. CLEANSER: I Cleanse face with raw milk/ boiled when raw unavailable, applied l...

Beat the Blues

We all get bogged down by something or other at some point of our lives, be it an over demanding boss, a nagging relative, inconsiderate colleagues, a bossy mother-in-law, a bad day at work …just about anything......the list is endless….There are times when you just don’t have a choice and you gotto go with the flow. Don’t dampen your spirits . We do not have rewind or forward buttons in our lives, we just have to go through it and It’s upto you to take it in your stride or be moved by the tide! Ladies, live life to the full and get over it! Let me tell you that as I write this post, I know deep within, how hard this can be. Easier said than done. But, baby steps in the right direction can keep you happy and chirpy. How I do it, you may read: 1. Talk : share your feelings with someone you trust! 2. Start Exercising: You get in shape and get the endorphins in the system, happiness hormones they say. You can start with a 30 min brisk walk. Also helps to clear your head. 3. Deep b...

Weekend Build Ups: Let’s get ready for the week honey!

While driving back from work these days you see umpteen number of vendors selling corn or bhutta in this part of the world. I ama hoarder. And as they say ‘eat seasonal’ I try to get best of both the worlds, I buy at least 10 bhuttas and while I roast 3-4 on the gas, myself for the family, I pressure cook the remainin, deseed them and save in containers for usage in paneer corn masala, corn soup, salad, veg biryani, corn cutlets etc etc etc…easy peasy. I usually keep such staples ‘ready to use’ in my fridge to be used as per requirement. These little weekend build ups to the war help me combat the weekdays in a breeze. 1. Homemade Eggless Mayonnaise:to be unloaded between yummy soft brown bread or between slightly grilled ready to use pizza base slices, garlic bread loaf slices. Endless usage. You can put onion, tomato, garlic, chicken shreds etc. in this and use it as filling between sandwiches etc. 2. Peeled garlic, a bowl full, stored in food grade air tight container Garli...

Slow Down u SUPER BABES

Hey have been away too long, but then was down with some health issues, and trying to be super! My usual routine was to get up at 5.30 am, do house chores like doing up the house, cooking a breakfast, sometimes lunch also, for hubby and getting the kid and myself ready to go to our respective destinations. When back from work I load the washing machine, cook dinner, tea, small chats with family, arrange clothes in closets, clean up the kitchen after cooking, catch some tv, etc etc. I would usually wind up by 11.00pm. Post one serious health issue which was caused by overworking during a 3 day holiday after a bad work week and few days of bed rest later, I realized that this super duper concept actually is a lost deal. Ya a great mom, a great wife, a great daughter is cool but SUPAAAAA is extreme. It leaves you tired, cranky, irritable and missing out on life. Folks out there who are trying to break their necks out, stretching themselves to no limit to come out as the best person ...

Count your blessings

My mother would always say "count your blessings" when i would crib or complain about how life was being unfair to me, though the matter at hand was trivial. i did not pay attention then, to those 3 magic words until yesterday. While ferrying my daughter to her nani's place last morning, i saw on the roadside, labour women living in shanties made of tarpaulin, some bamboo and xyz(typical urban rejects or waste) with no comforts, no gadgets, no electricity, no source of potable water nearby, no HOUSE, typical condition of crores of our country people living below poverty line. These women were carrying their kids in one hand, some were cooking, some trying to fetch some water, some attending kids, some staring in infinity, probably at some ray of hope, some oppurtunity that could come their way and help them make a living maybe help them get their next meal. I was being driven in an air conditioned, chauffeured car! how could i complain, i had so much to thank god for...

A DREAM HOUSE

For our breed, a dream house is nothing but a house where clothes are not strewn on sofas, treadmill and god knows what all other never imagined places. The house is dusted, gadgets are in place, chimney is clean, gas burner is sparkling! covers are where they are meantto be, for example tv cover on tv and not on sofa! microwave cover on microwave and not on the cabitet!the laundry piles are not skyrocketing. well if all this sounds familiar to you, please stop fretting! I don't have a magic trick waiting to be told, but a thot which needs to be shared! when m back from work, when my baby has had her dinner, when i am through my own dinner, basically when all is done......i take out 10 mins, believe me 10 mins now will save you hours of worry later, which will better your heart and well being....i take a big bag/ bucket and and start from one room and pick up 'not supposed to be here items' and pile in the tub. if it belongs to the room, try to keep it in it's place.......
